Dreamy, Refreshing, and Anti Inflammatory
Health Benefits of this tea
This Mermaid Mint Iced tea is packed with health benefits and ways you can customize your tea for your desired effect.
Peppermint
Peppermint tea has many health benefits besides it’s refreshing taste.
It can help relieve headaches, ease an upset stomach, soothe menstrual cramps, and it can help open your sinuses. It can also help boost your energy!
This herb is non caffeinated- and easy to grow. It is a perennial herb, meaning you only need to plant it once and it’ll come back year after year. If you are growing herbs at home you’ll notice that many perinuall herbs are of the mint family.
Bee Balm
Bee balm (aka Bergamot), lavender, hyssop, catmint, ect are all of the mint family. They can be swapped out with the peppermint. All of these herbs are all also medicinal with different properties. What they all have in common is they are all anti inflammatory, all ease an upset stomach, and all can help ease a head ache.
Bee Balm will have a more herbal flavor like an oregano, the flowers will be sweet. It is great for digestion and helps prevent infection.
Lavender
The lavender will have a stronger floral and astringent like smell and flavor. It has been proven to help treat symptoms of anxiety, depression, help you sleep faster and deeper, and help you relax overall.
Hyssop
The hyssop will be more like a herbal, liquorous flavor. It is anti inflammatory and helps aid in congestion. I love growing it for the beautiful flowers and the flavor of the tasty leaves and flowers.
Catmint
The catmint is like a subtle peppermint that is more herbal in flavor. It will be more sedative, relaxing, and help you fall asleep, where peppermint will energize you. You can learn more about which herbs to use for what effect here.
Butterfly Pea Flower
Butterfly Pea Flowers are high in anthocyanins, which are also found in blueberries, cherries, and cabbage. It’s a powerful anti oxidant that helps slow down aging. It is great for your skin and overall cell regeneration.
Lemon Balm
The Lemon Balm in this tea is another powerhouse that is full of amazing health properties. It will help you reduce stress and anxiety, help relieve headaches, and help with an upset stomach.
This is a great tea to help you feel happy and healthy- did I mention that is it super refreshing?!
Customizations
If you add some lemon juice to this tea it will turn hot pink! Butterfly Pea Flowers are a fun tea that changes color if you adjust the acidity- give it a try!
You’ll notice that I listed you can use your choice of sweetener. I prefer to use raw cane sugar for this tea due to it’s neutral flavor, however agave would also work well. Light maple syrup is another good option. However, try not to use dark maple syrup as the strong maple flavor doesn’t pair well with mint.
I would also advise you not to use honey. Buying honey is harmful to native bees since honey bees create competition. Most honey bees that bee keepers use are imported from Europe and are harmful to your local, native bees.
Help support our bees and environment by skipping on the honey!
