What is Vegan Bacon Jam?
Vegan Bacon jam is minced seitan bacon cooked down with onions, brown sugar, and other savory sweet flavorings. The result is a salty, sweet, meaty jam that is incredible for sandwiches!
Bacon jam first became popularized on burgers, but it is also incredible on paninis, toast, and inside of pastries. Spread this vegan bacon jam over some plant-based brie and wrap it in puff pastry for a delicious holiday treat. It’s also delicious dipped into dark chocolate for a fun twist on bonbons. There are so many possibilities!
Bacon Jam Made from Vegan Bacon
This recipe is incredible with homemade seitan bacon! The texture holds up well and the flavor is incredible- this is one of my favorite recipes that uses my seitan bacon.
That being said this recipe works with any brand of premade vegan bacon!
I’ve tested this recipe with Lightlife, Unreal Deli, Uptown Naturals, and Thrilling Foods vegan bacon– they all where great for this recipe!
Variations of Vegan Bacon Jam
This recipe is customizable and is very forgivable- it’s easy to make this bacon jam taste delicious!
- As mentioned above, you can use homemade seitan bacon or you can use your favorite brand of premade vegan bacon!
- Instead of brown sugar in this recipe try jaggery, jaggery is unprocessed cane sugar. The extra mineral content helps add depth of flavor and makes this jam even better!
- You can skip the bourbon all together! It does add a nice flavor but is totally optional
- Instead of apple cider vinegar, you can add a dash of pomegranate molasses for a more tangy and fruity twist
- The espresso powder is totally optional! It is great with or without it, it adds a slight bitterness and depth
- Instead of red chili flakes, try adding in up to 1/4 cup of hot sauce (or to taste). Some people love their bacon jam to be spicy- adding in your favorite hot sauce really complements the jam!
